EML30 Series Power Supplies

XP Power announces the expansion of the EML series of single-output ultra-compact AC-DC power supplies designed for use in medical applications. The EML30 joins the EML15 and has the smallest footprint and the highest power density in the industry when compared to other similar 30 W power supplies with medical safety approvals. Competitively priced, the versatile EML30 series also offers more mechanical formats and mounting options than the competition.

Factors driving the demand for this type of unit are the desire for, and the development of, smaller portable medical equipment. Accordingly, the EML15/30 will find favor with customers requiring medical safety approvals and where the power source needs to occupy minimal space. The EML15/30 is also ideal where the requirement is for a Class II input type power supply and where no ground / earth connection is needed.

The ultra-compact EML15/30 is the smallest 15 and 30 W medical power supplies in the industry. The open frame PCB-mount version measures a diminutive 62.0 mm x 30.7 mm x 24.4 mm (2.44 in. x 1.21 in. x .95 in.) for the 15 W and 75.2 mm x 34.6 mm x 26.7 mm (2.96 in. x 1.36 in. x 1.05 in.) for the 30 W.

Exhibiting versatility, the EML15/30 is available in a range of mechanical formats. There are open-frame versions with either PCB-mount or with connectors, encapsulated models with either PCB-mount or screw terminals, and a DIN-rail-mount option. These make life easier for designers by providing multiple mounting options to best fit their end system.

A wide range of eight single-output voltages embracing 3.3, 5, 9, 12, 15, 24, 36, and 48 VDC are available. To power short-term high-power loads, a peak current capability of up to 130% of nominal-rated power output is available, so there is no need for designers to specify a more expensive higher-rated power supply. The power supplies feature a wide operating temperature range of -25°C to 70°C, with no derating until above 50°C. Using convection cooling, the EML15/30 is able to provide full power without additional heat sinking or airflow.

The EML15/30 meets the requirements of EN60601-1:2006, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1:2005, and CSA-C22.2 No. 60601-1:2008, offering 2 x MOPP between primary and secondary circuits. Risk management files are available. The series meets the limits for Class B conducted and radiated EMC specifications of EN55022 without the need for any additional external filtering components. For medical customers, the EML15/30 offers an industry-leading power density with the smallest footprint currently available for 15 and 30 W medically approved AC-DC power supplies.
