Renesas' ISL784x4 is ideal for high current DC/DC applications that require high conversion efficiency. ISL784x4 offers very strong gate drive with peak sourcing current of 3 A and peak sinking current of 4 A. The strong gate drive allows these devices to rapidly switch MOSFETs with large gate capacitance, thereby reducing switching losses. ISL78424 and ISL78434 offer independent source and sink pins so the user can optimize the switching characteristics of the DC/DC conversion switching-node to improve EMI while limiting the negative impact to DC/DC conversion efficiency. ISL784x4 includes adaptive dead time control that allows it to minimize excess dead time, which would otherwise lead to excess conduction losses and therefore reduced DC/DC conversion efficiency.
The ISL784x4 family offers drivers with either PWM input (ISL78424/ISL78444) or HI/LI input (ISL78434) styles, allowing the driver to accept input from most DC/DC PWM controllers and microcontrollers. The ISL78444 driver is pin-compatible with prior generation Renesas driver, ISL78420, allowing for easy migration with minimal PCB redesign effort. ISL784x4 has voltage ratings that are ideal for 48 V automotive systems. Its switching node can tolerate 70 VDC up to 86 VDC for infrequent transients, such as load-dump. Its boot node can tolerate 86 VDC up to 100 VDC for infrequent transients.
