Especially with today's ultra-small, battery-powered products, power conversion and control ICs are integral in providing energy efficiency and helping to extend battery life. Switching regulators that do not generate too much heat, consume too much current, or require too much board space can enable more robust operation and longer battery life in the end product. Maxim Integrated's MAX38640 nanoPower buck DC-DC converter is an example of a switching regulator that is ideal for portable, space-constrained consumer electronics. With just 330 nA quiescent current, 5 nA shutdown current, and 96% peak efficiency, the MAX38640 can extend the battery life of wearables, IoT devices, industrial products, and much more. The device operates from 1.8 V to 5.5 V input voltage and supports load currents of up to 175 mA, 350 mA, and 700 mA. Its unique control scheme allows ultra-low quiescent current and high efficiency over a wide output current range. Its 1.42 mm x 0.89 mm wafer-level package (WLP) size fits the footprint requirements for many of today's battery-powered devices.
